SAY NO TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

As you all are aware, domestic violence is a major issue in PNG......All who affirm the use of violence admit it is only a means to achieve justice and peace. But peace and justice are nonviolence. Violence doesn't solve problems it creates them.

Yeah its very degrading for UPNG.University students should know better for that matter, they are supposed to be setting the standards in society...Well its my prayer that this student IS NOT a Law Student, because if he was he shouldnt be admitted into into the PNG Bar. or given the admission to practice. GOD BLESS PNG!

You know I also read the article and it's sick to hear an educated being doing such a thing. The thing thats disturbing is that he should more aware of Domestic Violence yet he his creating it. How dumb could he be.....

Husband bashes wife in public
After ‘seeing another woman’
It was a new day. As residents in Port Moresby city got out to head to work yesterday morning, a horrific experience was in store for them at one part of the city.
People who were trying to catch their PMV buses to work at the Lahara Park near the Mobile Service station at Four Mile, saw the beating of a woman senseless by her husband, who is a University of Papua New Guinea student.
The woman was later seen at the Boroko police station with blood oozing from the cuts on her forehead and the bridge of her nose. Her husband allegedly booted and smashed her head on the concrete.
This newspaper inquired and was told that the woman was employed and was on her way to work when her husband bashed her up in public.
Peering from under her swollen forehead and finding it difficult to talk from the pains and the swelling to the bridge of her nose, she tried her best to relate the incident.
“I work for this company and with the little that I earn I support my husband and child. He said he wanted to go to school so I sponsored him.
“He finished studies but wanted to continue so I sacrificed whatever I could for him to go back.
“I found out he was seeing another woman and when I confronted him with that, he lost his cool and started punching me,” she said.
The morning heat was slowly drying the blood on her face. On her cheeks, fresh blood was still oozing. The tissue paper she had used was already stained with her blood. She looked away ashamedly when she spoke.
“With the money I make, he is fed and clothed. So I told him if he wants to have an affair with another woman, then she better look after you and you just compensate my son and I and go your way,” she said.
Other women listening were disgusted. One woman said with her voice raised, “Men seem to think that they own us, they must know that we have rights too.
“Anyway, you have come to the right place. We are only here to get our revenge and that is for the courts to decide on separation or divorce, that’s all,” a policewoman said.
The woman later left the police station to go to the Port Moresby General Hospital for treatment.
Yesterday the office of the Family and Sexual Violence unit was closed due to a meeting but will help the victim.
I found this article in the Post Courier and I have it very disturbing not because the the victim was bashed in public but because the wife basher is a UPNG STUDENT! This inhumane behaviour isnt supposed carried out by educated university students! We are depending on education to eradicate most of our immoral behaviour however this article suggests otherwise.....What is happening to this nation!

Exactly bro! NO PNG WOMEN SHOULD HAVE TO PUT UP WITH IT!
Its a shame our society has all forms of discrimination in existence.....
Well one reason I think Domestic Violence is still in our society is because of the customary 'brideprice'.I do acknowlegde the fact that Brideprice unites families and builds a stronger unit throughout the exteneded families and in some cases it is seen as the glue of a marriage BUT in this 21st Century,it is seen as having a women as a possesion, because she has been 'bought' therefore she doesnt have rights and a say in her married life hence it allows the husband to abuse and exploit his wife......It is my prayer that Domestic Violence in PNG,will be eradicated during my lifetime.

Hey, know its late..but Erox, I totally agree with you!!
No woman should have to out up with it!
Actually, rape and violence against women can be classed as acts of sexism because obviously, men who commit such crimes, to some extent believe they are more superior than the sex they are victimising!!!
And I thought the world was past sexism....
Guess not all forms of this discrimination have been resolved!! UNFORTUNATELY!!!

Domestic Violence can be removed from society,if the men and women folk of PNG are educated that it is harmful, shameful and against our ethics and values......
Today we see it as a normal family issue, this should never be the understanding,For instance we witness it and we dont report it.....A couple of months back I was home and I witnessed a women being trampled on,beaten violently and kicked whilst lying on the ground by her husband,I found it very disturbing and in a sense also shameful, because we in society still continue to put up with this rubbish.........DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHOULD NOT BE SEEN AS THE AVERAGE HOUSEHOLDS ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS A CRIME! DONT BE A WIFE BASHER,BE A MAN!

I totally agree with Eroli....no women should be made to shallow her dignity n pride by attending to a drunkard partners whims every time they come home drunk. Men who use alcohol as an excuse to sort issues in a relationship are less than a dog and the biggest cowards!!! No one has the right to hurt the next person just coz they have a relationship with them..My advise to you men out there who are married or are thinking about taking the step..LOVE n RESPECT your women and if you don't love em then let them go...
