Hi yall. I had a read-through on all your comments on this global warming issue and thought, why not I say somthin? I am a member anyways. So here’s what I think about this issue.
One day we all are going to die. Whether we like it or not, whether we believe it or not, death is inevitable for all of us. But before we die we had better for the worst and that’s aging. We are aging every moment of our lives. One moment you look younger and the next you 50 and by the time you finished complaining about the white stuff on your head you’ll be dead. Sorry if this is in anyway unpleasant but hey, its reality. Well the point is, this world is also aging. This world, slowly but surely, is coming to terms with the fact that it can no longer cater for life as we know it. It has come a long way and now it has to face the inevitable…DEATH. Like any old person, the obvious happens to make us say, “OH PLIS TURANGU YA LAPUN NAU”. Well ol’mother earth is beginning to loose the staff and be nailed to rocking chair waiting for her death. That’s why everything is happening. Floods, earthquakes, volcano eruptions, tidal waves, whateva and larevea. The sooner we realize this, the better for us all.

Can we say that Global Warming is hitting all the lowlying islands of the world and we humans are the ones who are causing it?

BBC LIVE - Weather Alert
(Unknown bandwith and Frequency)

Welcome to our weather forecast for this evening. Its extrremely hot in certain parts of the country with very high temperatures.
Our advise to you all is to stay indoors as the heat is said to be unusual as a direct result of global warming.

Bata,

Thanks for widening the issue of discussion as it is two-fold and has a multitude of approaches which you have stated below.

Whichever way we turn, the problem still lingers and it is a very daunting task indeed.

To confer on your closing remark, I may have to say that both directions have to be critically looked into from different angles. I guess, when a natural disaster of such magnitude occurs globally, I see no viable methods to effectively quell it, in fact, it would rather seem as an impossible task as the damage is severe and irrevereseable in the immediate timeframe. It takes hundreds of years, maybe millions before nature is set to where it was. The only onus beset on us is to adapt to this inevitability and to ensure foremost, the survival and wellbeing of those who are directly affected are catered for. But even that, to me seems a very tall order as in the end, we all are going to suffer as it affects us all through the weather, climate change, daily intake, the air, our physical state and so forth.

For those matters that can be controlled and influenced, they must be critically addressed by the so-called leaders who have to take proactive measures to create and implement effective policy mechanisms to ensure the social, economical and even cultural fabric of PNG is maintained and that it doesnot lose its identity.

For interest sake, the above blog shows the severity of the issue and how serious this problem will be for PNG in the coming future...

Thanks for the Initiative, would be better to have it this way; CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING, Just a suggestion.

It is now a development problem and not just pure science. When talking about climate change and global warming it is a cross cutting issue that cuts through all sectors of lives. Whether it could be economic, social or environmental, there are real problems that need to be addressed. What options do we have???
Do we ADAPT or Do we MITIGATE????.....

Your welcome...

Iam honoured to be the first to join this very important group.

In fact, on a serious note, much of the outer islands around PNG will sink into the ocean in the next ten years or so and there's nothing much we can do.

I guess, the leaders must come up with long term strategies to combat this issue as well as address the impact of the socio-ecological damage, and even to the extent, extinction of certain flora and fauna lifeforms along with the displacement of the islanders to a more secure location.
